Accidents Happen: How to use 10 ponds of brown butter

How I acquired 10 pounds of brown butter:
At work on Sunday a co-worker of mine (Fancy Toes Panda) browned about 10 pounds of butter.Unfortunately for him it was unusable for his recipe. As he prepared to throw it away my co worker (Dirty panda) stopped him stating that I would take it home.
Now lets be honest savory cook friends of mine. 10 pounds of brown butter can be a exciting, and fun challenge. It may be a tad bit glutinous . But you only live once right? Also butter is kinda expensive so free butter is better that buying it right?

My over all goal is to keep you informed with things I use the brown butter for. Oh, FYI my roommates will help me eat all these cooked items.

So far....

Dinner: 4 tbsp of brown butter
sauteed with sweet potato, Bok choy, zucchini, and parm cheese tossed with penne pasta and, finished with a splash of sherry vin. Shared with Gina

Breakfast: 1 tbsp
3 farm eggs scrambled with brown butter. Shared with Gina.

Farm share= a weekly scramble to get ride of all veggies in house. New veggies come today so.... I made potato leek soup. naturally I used 3 tbsp of brown butter to cook down the veg in.

Dinner: 6 tbsp brown butter
My roommate needed me to cook chili for a dinner party she was having at our house. So...I sauteed all the veg for the chili in brown butter. Shared with 5 people. Still left overs.

The rest of kitty sitting

Add ImageChiChi appeared on day 3! I was sitting in one of the kitchens and she ran thru. At that point I was pretty sure she had been eating when I went to sleep but, still to this day I have yet to see her eat.

The bonus of this cat gig was the backyard with a huge grill. I spend most nights grilling every kind of meat I could locate. Steaks, steamers, chicken, hotdogs. The huge garden made it easy to make a plethora of marinades. Although I have been cooking as a profession for quite a few years now, I have to admit lighting a propane grill turned out to be somewhat of a challenge. First off, the rain cover apparently had velcro strips that blAdd Imageended in so well with the cover that it took me a hot minute to figure out. After I finally got that off, I had to figure out how to light it. I kept turning the knob to ignite but it turns out you have to turn on the propane first. "What ever happened to charcoal"?

On Sunday night, Muffin Top Panda (code name for my co- worker) came over for a slumber party. It was fun to grill and have some wine on the back patio. We played some lame board game that MTP picked out and watched some TV. All uneventful night? Wrong. I had brought over a air mattress For MTP to sleep on, since the other bedroom was in the basement where it was kinda cold and a bit scary. When I attempted to blow up the air mattress, it turned out the pump was broken. Sad panda. This meant that after discussing earlier how scary it would be to sleep in the basement, now MTP would have to sleep there. The next morning, MTP announced that she couldn't sleep and that a fan had fallen over and left poor MPT frightened.

Monday, my day off I had planned to stay in the kitchen to see if Chichi would appear for her breakfast. I was determined to watch her eat like the note had requested. I woke up put out the food and decided to check the media room for chichi. I looked under the couches and coffee table next to the game shelf and behind the TV. Oooooo, Kri loves TV. I could just hear the TV begging me to turn it on for Five Minutes. So of course I did. 4 hours later, I went upstairs to find the food gone and no cats in sight. Even Biggie was MIA.

By thursday, I was ready for cat sitting to be over. Big Papa only cAdd Imageame out of hiding during meal times and sleeping on a super firm matress had made the extra half hour commute somewhat unbearable. Since I had not really gone out in many, days I wentAdd Image with my roomates to Kareoke. After a beer or two, I felt much better about the firm mattress and only 1 more night of kitty city.

So I am basically finished with this job. After I get up and feed biggie and chichi I will have finished my first random job. I have to say cat-sitting was not all bad and if I was given the opportunity again I would probably take it. The money is decent and if you get bored, you can always call a friend or co-worker to slumber party! $260.00 in hand. Kri out!Add Image

Adventures in cat sitting

Chichi where are you?????

I can't seem to locate chichi anywhere. I still have not seen her eat. We are to meal 3 and she is MIA. I caught a glimpse of her last night but she ran for cover almost immediatly after our encounter.
Note quote: (I will be using this to inform you the reader what was in the instructions) Biggie should be fed next to the fridge. while chichi should be fed under the kitchen table where she feels safe.

I was hoping that knowing this information would mean that chichi would be eating tonight when I called out "dinner," and put out her food. That after dinner she would be so comfortable from eating under the table that she would come down to the tv room and we would watch "Blood Dolphins" on flatty (nick name for the flat screen) together.

Reality:
I put both cats food out.
called out dinner....
biggie, chichi come and eat.....
Biggie smalls stayed hidden in the formal living room under the couch. ChiChi did not come out from hiding.

No kri kitty bonding tonight. Sad panda.

House/cat sitting

So here is the run down. I have never been left in charge of anyone's cats or house. Still, when I was talking to my roommate about how much I love money and have so little these days she offered up her cat/ house sitting gig. So with all these new responsibilities and access to wii and a GINORMOUS Flat screen TV, I have moved in.

I am staying in a pretty big house. Huge actually if you compare it to my cozy 3 bedroom apartment in cambridge. This house is a three bedrooms house, with two kitchens a multitude of bathrooms and a big backyard with vegetable garden. It's almost like being on vaca.

The two cats I am cat sitting for are vastly different. (I will give them code names to protect there identity.)
The first cat who I will call Biggie Smalls reminds me of the deceased rapper. He may have a bit of a weight problem or if he doesn't, then he is big-boned. Biggie is super friendly and greeted my sig (signifigant other) and I at the door upon arrival.
According to the note I was left, Biggie is a tabby I think. In the note it said he is total lap cat, loves to have his treats thrown down a hallway to chase. And may attempt to sleep with me tonight.

The second cat...(this name is harder to pick)...I think I will call her Chichi. Chichi is a long haired cat. thus far she is very timid. So timid that I may not see her much. This could be a problem since I must be present when she eats. Apparently, Biggie will eat all her food, plus his, if meal times are not monitored.

Chichi was a stray and has had some medical conditions including loosing all her teeth so I am assuming when she dose come out of hiding eating her food may be a slow process.

Thats all for now I guess. till tomorrow... or later tonight.
